Money Smart Week South Africa is an initiative of the National Consumer Financial Education Committee (NCFEC) and is an opportunity for organisations or individuals to showcase their financial literacy programmes and activities across South Africa by running various activations. This campaign was first run in 2018 and involved 48 participants and 200 volunteers running physical financial literacy events in 4 areas in Gauteng.
MSWSA 2020, which was arranged to be the second such campaign involving physical events nationally, was cancelled due to COVID-19.
MSWSA 2021 took place between 22-28 March and included many participants from 2018 and 2020 as well as a number of new participants. Participating organisations could either make use of this year’s digital platform with their events being live-streamed on the MSWSA website, or could run their own online events, small physical events where permitted, or individually arranged community radio campaigns.
This year’s 79 participants included community groups, financial services providers (FSP’s), regulators, policy makers, consumer financial educators, non-profit organisations, educational and training institutes.
All approved events and initiatives were promoted via the various MSWSA channels, as well as through dedicated public relations and marketing efforts, including an extensive digital and social marketing campaign.
